Australian anger at Madonna adoptionsApril 02, 2009 12:00am
By Angela Saurine
MADONNA'S adoption of a second child from Africa has infuriated Australian mums who have adopted from there, saying it would take six years for them to do the same thing.
The pop superstar was showing off her new daughter, Mercy, 4, in Malawi yesterday, just two years after adopting David Banda from the same country.
Seven years ago it took Carmel and Jeff Stormer of Newcastle more than four years to adopt brothers Kidane and Yohi, now 10 and 12, from Ethiopia - and cost $20,000.
"It's frustrating. It's almost like she can buy children," Mrs Stormer said.
Back in Malawi, Madonna's son David, 3, saw his father Yohane Banda for the first time since leaving Africa and asked him: "Who are you?"

Madonna, you did it again
I don't know what the fuss is all about. So Madonna has given another Malawian child a hope at a (hopefully) better life, is that so bad? The headline in today's Daily Telegraph cried, "Australian anger at Madonna adoptions" but the contents written by one Angela Saurine carried only one Australian mom's anger. Only one. So, why the misleading headline? I guess running the headline, "An Australian anger at Madonna adoptions" wouldn't come across like a public outcry but at least that would have been closer to the truth. It is just bloody lazy journalism, mate. The least you thought Saurine could have done was to rope in just one more (angry) comment so it becomes plural and hence justifying the misleading headline.
