Spoonful Of Loh: Good hair day

As some of you might already know, I or rather my hair have done it all; long, short, curly, straight, even a GI when I was doing my military service but please, let's not go there.

My theory on hairdo (and don't) is very simple - it has to suit you. Doesn't matter your age, gender, fame, marital status, if it doesn't suit, it ain't for you. While I concede suitability is relative and ultimately in the eye of the beholder, trust me - even if you absolutely worship yourself, there is not much point if everyone else doesn't share your view.

The secret of having good hair is to have a good hairstylist whose mantra should read: you don't look good, he/she don't look good. Hence, understandably finding one is like finding the Holy Grail. Even then, being the control freak that I am, it does take me a while to relinquish (total) control. If I can last three visits, my hairstylist will have me for life. And I am a loyal stayer.

Mind you, I didn't set out seeking Shinka. It didn't appear in Sydney till last year which was just about the time my relationship with my previous hairstylist was about to be snipped, so to speak. He was going to up my rate by 100% and I was on the look out for another salon to move on to. Long story short; one sunny day I was letting my eyes wander around while waiting for my noodles at Ichi-ban Boshi when I looked across the crowded dining area and voila! there was Shinka and the rest is as they'd say, hairstory.

I truly enjoy my visits to Shinka. The team treats you royally. I mean which salon you know gives you a suede (okay it's faux suede, stop nit-picking) pillow to prop up your reading material so you can read in comfort? Admittedly I also use such visits to binge on magazine fodder and catch up with the latest in Japanese pop culture where there's always something new to learn (of) which will come in real handy as icebreakers.
